The latter was so strict and rule-driven that he once publicly reprimanded parents who arrived 5 minutes late to back-to-school night -- in an auditorium filled with parents. He told them they had better be sure their child was never late as they had been, and launched into a mini-sermon about alarm clocks. My mother told me about it because the "violators" were good friends of my parents.
